Who is Tommi Kokko?

With over 10 years in the industry, it all began as an interest in customizing, that eventually turned into a lifelong passion for my craft. With a custom shop attitude at heart, I began my luthier training through inspection of the quality of work from other manufacturers. Through problem-solving moments of near-catastrophe, I paved the way for learning and striving to perfect my craft.

All my years in customer service fuel my goals to exceed my customers' expectations when it comes to realizing their dream instrument. I take responsibility over my work as a craftsman, all the way down to material selection and sustainable use. I believe in good communication between customers and myself to be the foundation of what a bespoke instrument should be.

The instruments I build will reflect just as much on the client's personality, as it will mine. There is always much more to learn and I invite you join in on this journey with me.

I am 100% behind renewable and recyclable packaging, I strive for that myself. But this is not the way to do it.

A lot small businesses are suffering the consequences of this regulation, most of whom have closed up sales across borders and sadly some have closed shop entirely. It's heartbreaking to see.

The EU was supposed to provide a means for smaller businesses to thrive internationally, now we're being given the middle finger, while the giants can afford to play by the rules. The very same ones that this legislation was created to be held accountable, but it's the small creators who take the brunt of it.

I am still reading up and researching at what I can do, but as I don't have everything ready, my hand is forced and my international sales are closed for the unforeseeable future.

I am very nitpicky about what I use for clear coats on my guitars. Previously I have had some really lackluster results, in both workability and practical use.

Fortunately @nitorlack have been to steadily provide a product that I like to use, looks great, and feels great to the touch.

So... I bought a guitar. I found this 1980 Vantage Spirit 510 at a local secondhand store. It had been neglected, dirty, damaged by moisture, and the electronics wouldn't work.

Daedalus No.0046
This guitar is special in many ways. The main "thing" about this Daedalus is that it is made from domestic woods only. Apart from the neck, all the woods are from trees that were cut down from my in-laws' yard in February of 2024. The woods were air dried for 2 years after which a selection was further kiln-dried in my old school. Over Midsummer, this surprise gift was handed over to by brother-in-law.
• Aspen body
• Karelian birch
• 3-piece roasted birch neck (woods from @vuorensaku_guitars 🤘🏼)
• Oak fretboard (stained with a vinegar+steel wool mix) and inlaid with resin oak leaves and bound in Karelian birch
• 14" fretboard radius (the first IP to have a smaller radius fretboard)
• @duratdesign nut (also from the same town as the woods)
• 24 narrow "vintage style" @sintoms_ltd NS frets
• @schallergmbh Bridge
• @g_gotoh510 tuners
• @lollarpickups P90s (the first IP guitar to have P90s)
• Puretone jack
• @allpartsmusic Volume, Tone, 3-Way switch

Build No.0045 - Icarus Custom 7-string

Over a year in the making and finally complete. This was by far one of the most challenging instruments I have created and one that I learned a lot from. Truly special specs and a "More is more" attitude that Mr. Malmsteen would be proud of.

• Walnut body, Flamed maple top
• 3-piece Maple neck with a Pale Moon Ebony fretboard
• 7-strings 25,5" scale length
• 27 @sintoms_ltd Stainless Steel frets
• Titanium truss rod
• Lundgren M7 Bridge, Black Heaven Neck

• Leather DiMarzio Clip-lock strap
• "JaKurt burst" stain
• Special wiring and switching for 7 tonal options

• And of course the Scrat inlay made up of different pieces of inlaid wood and pearl

I'm not really used to grain fillers in my work, however this waterbased filler from @nitorlack was really easy to use and very efficient at smoothing out that porous mahogany on this guitar🤌🏼

Electronics giving you hum and unwanted feedback? When is the last time you checked your shielding?

I used to use aluminium tape for shielding guitar cavities, because I was living under the illusion that shielding paint was hard to obtain. Not the case, I've used a fair few now and have found the @nitorlack paint to really hit the mark nicely🫟🖌️ easy application, two coats, and done. It has been quiet on socials for a while, but rest assured I have been busy with several projects. Including this custom Icarus for @jakurtti which has been down to polishing central in the last few days.

It's starting to look the part and I am beyond relieved at how this has gone. Fretwork and assembly are soon to follow as well as some really interesting wiring work.

The @nitorlack Polish & Cleaner has quickly become a go-to cleaner for me whenever I get instruments in for maintenance.

Lovely product that removes any dirt and grime, but also helps polish glossier finishes back to a beautiful shine✨

As per the story posted today. The Scum guitar was the precursor to what would become the Ariadne guitar.

Here they are side-by-side. Scum designed and built in 2017 during my last months at CG and the first Ariadne prototype (still available) which was revealed in 2024. A lot changed in the original body shape and design aspects, but some details just got redefined (the headstock remained more or less the same).

There is no doubt that this has been (and will continue to be) one of the most challenging builds I have ever made, but damn if it doesn't look good so far.

This stain worked out great and I admit to having some apprehension toward it at first. The process was difficult, but exciting at the same time. And when the tape was removed it made me so happy to look at it all.

A completely outrageous guitar if there was one. But in the best possible ways. Cannot wait to see it come together and hear what @jakurtti does with it🤘🏼

Thank you to everyone who popped by the booth for a chat and those you tried the guitars out🤘🏻 I am so grateful for the reception that my work received and glad that the new Daedalus models were definitely picked up the most (these will be up the site soon, if you already want one, hit me up. 2150€ each).

As talked about with several peers during the weekend, I love these events. It is so fun to see that especially here in Finland us makers have our own specific things going on, we share tips and processes and there is no real rivalry to speak of between brands. It's like no other field I know.

The 2026 Riff Contest gathered a total of 14 contestants! Over double the amount from last year, video and winners to follow in the coming days.
